Jesus take the wheel..like seriously

In the words of Carrie Underwood, sometimes we legit cannot drive the car anymore.

I’m calling myself out for my tendency to want to be in control. Being type A & wanting to hold everything I grasp and “make things happen” can leave me with a tight grip on that steering wheel.

Yet I know right now God’s been showing me to allow him to take the wheel, loosen my grip & TRUST.

Sounds easy right? Why drive yourself, when you can just let God take the wheel?! I mean typically we would all rather have an uber driver take us where we wanna go & chauffeur us around. Not to mention God’s like the perfect uber driver! Easier said than done. Trying to Hold that steering wheel tight ?! Ya girl here is #guiltyascharged!! Sometimes it’s easy to trust God and be totally okay with the direction he’s taking you.

But when the path ahead of you is foggy, and you can only see about 2 ft in front of you, you can feel like you need to grab that wheel and just try to control things on your own!

Sometimes the road looks like a clear sunny smooth pavement, and other times you look out the window and see a torrential downpour, and can only see the yellow and white lines that tell you you’re on the road.

Yet The Lord calls us deeper into our walk with him & wants us to have faith without seeing what’s ahead. He wants us to surrender everything to him and trust him as our source of hope, provision, protection, and love.

He’s been showing me that sometimes faith absolutely is trusting him in EVERY area of your life…

Even when things don’t look the way you think they should,

When things aren’t going as you expected,

When you’re in the delayed, or waiting seasons of life.

When we feel like we want things to go a certain way or life to unfold into our own plans, I believe it’s in these moments we have to surrender..

Even if that means daily laying down whatever it is that we expected, are hoping for, didn’t go as planned or isn’t figured out.

Our trust in God shouldn’t be based on what’s going on in our life it should be based on WHO God is.

And in order to let go of the wheel and place our trust in him, we need to renew our minds in the truth & equip ourselves with the armour of God, so that when morning comes and we don’t have a resolution to where we are.. When the road is still full of rain, and we can only see the lines on the road.. when our circumstances don’t seem to look different we can stand on the truth of God’s word.

What does putting on the armour of God even mean- it may look like waking up 30 min - 1 hour earlier to read scripture and repeat it out loud so it marinates in you, it means when a thought that doesn’t align with the word comes into your mind, you take that thought - refuse to think about it & replace it with something true. That may mean doing that over and over in the day.

It means when you don’t see the next step, you trust Gods already moving and making a way for whatever HIS plan is instead of worrying of staying in fear.

Something I heard recently that really showed me how important it is that we get into the practice of “putting our armor on” is that no one else can do it for you, and that’s true. Nobody else can trust God for you, or let God and let God. No one else can renew your mind for you..

And no one else can take each thought that enters your mind & make it align with what is true!

Only you can fight the battles of life with the power of the Holy Spirit living in you! We must rely on his power, it’s ok if you can’t do it on your own, you weren’t meant to even though we think this at times.

We can know what the Bible says, but in order to live it out we have to use it as the sword over minds and hearts each day.

When we have doubt or fear we have to look to the word of God and see what it says about who God is.

If you’re struggling to relinquish control and have faith over fear, I would encourage you to write these verses down & even read them out loud each day:

  • “For I know the plans  I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

  • Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.- Hebrews 11:1

  • May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

  • And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart Proverbs 3:5-6 and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

What God has shown me is that true peace & contentment comes through Jesus and nothing else & he is the source that makes our heart settled and free from anxiety and fear.

The way we receive this peace is through replacing any thoughts of lack, fear, anxiety, or doubt in his hands, by receiving healing from our past wounds & believing that he will make a way just like he did for us in every circumstance in the past.

Submission of thoughts that don’t align with the word + renewing your mind in the truth of the word + accepting and coming to know the deep love of the father in your life ( if you struggle with this I recommend the book in the notes below) will help you let go of control & have faith when you can’t see, ❤️

When we let go and trust God we allow him to be Lord over our life, and to guide us where he wants us to go, his plans are good, his plan is for a hope and future for you. Hold tight to his promises as you let go of the wheel and allow him to navigate the rains of what you cannot see.
